INTRODUCTION

This traveling studio visited historical sites to investigate the hybridization of old and new to form “mutant species.” The intent was to map survival methodologies of siting.

The first project displayed is a detail of one of the sub-projects, SHINTO SHRINES/SITING. Shrines are sited in a spiritual sense, relating with nature and kamis. They organize the landscape to reflect socio-political conditions and provide gradations of physical access to this deity. The location of every shrine in a city block was mapped out; 37 in total were found. The other projects include: CONTAINMENT, MEMORIALIZATION, JUXTAPOSITION, and GENTRIFICATION.

Application: Applied intensive research and analysis to graphical drawings through firsthand observations, sketches, urban planning, mapping, and conceptualizations of “siting” within current context.
